The Brevity
®Amphibious Aircraft...The quality of expressing much in a few words!

GRA-CV Company logo

The Brevity™ is a mid-wing configuration aircraft with a spacious canopy and gull wing doors, a crucifix tail and a robust retractable landing gear situated in the main wings. The comprehensive design of the Brevity is based on a truly innovative concept that tackles the major design flaws inherent with most boat-hulled and float amphibious aircraft. Computer aided modeling and aerodynamic fine-tuning of the design resulted in a feasible and versatile aircraft configuration with various practical and appealing features.

The most remarkable design feature is the arrangement of the propulsive unit, which by its position and shape makes the aircraft really unique in its class. With the power plant and propulsive unit right in the heart of its ‘centre of gravity’, the design incorporates technical, aerodynamic and flying advantages.

The combination of computerized design, composite technologies and a ducted (turbo) fan system made it possible for us to create an aircraft with "jet-like" appearance and flying characteristics far superior over the traditional boat hulled amphibious aircraft.

The Brevity Seaplane will:

Ř       carry 1 up to 6*people in luxurious, and safe seats or haul ± 550 kg (1.211 lbs) of payload*

Ř       have STOL characteristics and (limited) aerobatics capabilities.

Ř       have a range between 750 and 1000 NM (1,390 and 1,850 km)*

Ř       base its performance parameters on the Allison 250-C20Rt or Turbomeca 2K1 engines.

Ř       be equipped with a complete VFR / IFR instrumentation* panel.

Ř       have a robust retractable landing gear.

Ř       have a partially hydraulic flight control system.

Ř       will come with a variety of practical and useful reconfiguration possibilities.

Market positioning of the Brevity

Market analysis unequivocally indicates that a sizeable market for seaplanes exist and more interestingly, that a comparable factory-built (EASA-certified) product is not available nor under development at this moment! The combination of a modern seaplane concept and an interesting and expanding market offers a good business opportunity.

Given its innovative design combined with modern features such as VFR/IFR-instrument panels*, LCD and GPS technologies**, together with a range of configurations, the aircraft positions itself in the professional, sport & leisure and military sectors.

Among the most important competitors in the market for 2-6 seat aircraft, though not all amphibious, are designs like the Katana DA-40, Cirrus Design’s SR-22, Cessna 172 and Cessna 185, Lake Renegade 250, Maule and the Dehaviland Beaver. Also a few VLA and HB products, from a number of aviation Companies are mentioned here, such as the Sea wind 3000, Seastorm and Icon A5

What's past is prologue

The concept and design of the Brevity™ was conceived by Chris Ryff from the Netherlands who established the project around the turn of the century. The project inhabits the development of a unique amphibious aircraft that tackles the mayor design flaws in straight float planes & boat-hulled (amphibious) aircraft. Given its comprehensive design the aircraft was named The Brevity, embodying  'the quality of expressing much in a few words!'

Feasibility studies made clear that the concept is worthwhile and merited further development, testing and certification. Interest from several aviation companies persuaded us to explore the Brevity’s potential market, which resulted in a significant replacement and growth market opportunity. As a result of these positive findings, it was decided to develop the aircraft in a separate legal entity, The Brevity Seaplane LLC. This way, the project can progress professionally and leave better options for investors to participate.

We hope that this website will open a first window for you at a truly new and remarkable amphibious aircraft concept and business opportunity.

Associates

The Dutch Ministry of Economic Affairs, all ready provided several subsidies for both technical and marketing feasibility studies for the Brevity™ concept. In the spring of 2008 the project received funding from several risk capitalist to complete the necassary aerodynamical studies. This support contributed fundamentally to raise the concept to investment level, which is now ready for development.

The above is a brief overview of The Brevity project.  We will be happy to provide further details on written request.  For terms and conditions to participate in The Brevity project, follow the “participations” banner.

 Participation

At this moment we seek entrepreneurial, technical and financial partners for the development of The Brevity aircraft.  For that purpose, The Brevity Seaplane LLC is established.

The immediate objectives are to complete and certify the design and build a flying 'proof of concept'. In the following stage production will be started according to EASA standards.

Should you be interested in participation in The Brevity Seaplane LLC, we kindly invite you to inquire us through the contact link below or by sending an e-mail to: info@gra-cv.com

European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) The European Aviation Safety Agency is the centrepiece of the European Union’s strategy for aviation safety. Our mission is to promote the highest common standards of safety and environmental protection in civil aviation.

The Transport and Water Management Inspectorate (IVW) ensures that aircraft comply with airworthiness and environmental protection standards. Aircraft, engines, propellers, equipment, parts, etc. must be properly designed, manufactured and maintained, in order to be permitted to operate in the airspace. Compliance is mainly achieved through certification of products and organisations. Only approved organisations have privileges to undertake aviation activities. Certification is increasingly performed within an international context, in which the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) plays a major role.
